Neuromuscular blockade of rocuronium in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus

2010
Objective To evaluate the neuromuscular blockade of rocuronium in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM).Methods Sixty patients undergoing selected surgery under total intravenous anesthesia were divided into two groups with 30 cases each. The patients in group D were with T2DM and those in group C without T2DM as the controls.During anesthesia induction,a bolus of rocuronium 0.6 mg/kg was injected and neuromuscular block criteria of onset time, the times for T1 recovered to 25% and 75%,and recovery index(RI) were monitored using train-of-four nerve stimulation. Results The onset time was not significantly different between tow groups(P0.05).The times for T1 recovered to 25% and 75%,and recovery index(RI) were significantly longer in group D than those in group C(P0.05).Conclusion Compared to the patients without diabetes mellitus, the clinical duration and recovery time of rocuronium are prolonged in patients with T2DM.
