Electron Beam Fluorescence (EBF) free stream probe (FSP) test campaign preparation

2017
The Electron Beam Fluorescence (EBF) technique has been shown to provide inflow measurement of the gas number density and gas temperature, in conditions typical of reentry flows. While the earlier implementation where primarily designed for wind-tunnel measurements, some recent development have shown that the technique could be miniaturized in a Free Stream Probe, whose dimension are compatible with in-flight experiments. The main objective of this task is to upgrade, miniaturize and calibrate an existing prototype to perform measurements in the VKI Plasmatron wind tunnel facility with a flight compatible design. This document describes the current status of the design of the miniaturized EBF FSP and the test campaign preparation. It will be complemented by forthcoming revision of this note further describing the finalized design of the FSP.
