Expression of Claudin-3 and Claudin-4 protein in epithelial ovarian cancer tissue

2009
Aim:To explore the expression and correlation of Claudin-3 and Claudin-4 protein in ovarian epithelial cancer tissue. Methods:Immunohistochemical method was used to detect the expression of Claudin-3 and Claudin-4 protein in 65 cases of ovarian epithelial cancer,12 cases of borderline ovarian tumor,15 cases of benign ovarian tumor and 10 cases of normal ovarian tissues, and then analyze the relationship between their expression (Claudin-3 and Claudin-4 protein )and the clinicopathological characteristics of epithelial ovarian cancer patients as well as their correlation. Results: ①The expression of Claudin-3 protein in ovarian epithelial cancer tissues was significantly higher than that in borderline ovarian tumor, benign ovarian tumor and normal ovarian tissues(χ2=35.443,P0.05).The expression of Claudin-4 protein in ovarian epithelial cancer tissues and borderline ovarian tumor tissues were significantly higher than those in benign ovarian tumor tissues and normal ovarian tissues(χ2=40.258,P0.05). ②The expressions of Claudin-3 and Claudin-4 in medium and low grade differentiated ovarian epithelial carcinomas were higher than those in high grade differentiated ovarian epithelial carcinoma (χ2=14.249,9.991,P0.05).The expression of Claudin-3 and Claudin-4 in ovarian epithelial carcinoma with lymphoid metastasis were significantly higher than those in ovarian epithelial carcinoma without lymphoid metastasis(χ2=4.710,4.065,P0.05). ③The expression of Claudin-3 and Claudin-4 in ovarian epithelial carcinoma tissue had positive correlation(rP=0.588,P0.05).Conclusion: The high expression of Claudin-3 and Claudin-4 may closely be related to the development, invasion and metastasis of ovarian epithelial carcinoma.
