Assessing performance in surgical research and teaching

1992
The clinical registration of performance mainly serves to ascertain the staff plan. The measure of teaching and research is not quality but quantity in hours. For teaching, the time of lectures is taken with an added factor of 1.5 for lectures and 0.5 for practical training for preparation. For research it is customary to take an index of 10% of yearly working hours of all physicians working in medical care. Therefore, in an university hospital approximately 25% of the staff plan accounts for research and teaching.
