THE CHANGES IN DIETARY PATTERN OF HUBEI RESIDENTS FROM 1982 TO 2002

Objective:To understand the changes in dietary patterns and the nutritional status of the residents in Hubei province from 1982 to 2002. Method:960 randomly selected families were investigated and the data were analyzed by statistical methods.Results:The nutritional status of Hubei residents was improved significantly in recent 20 years but vitamin and mineral deficiencies were still common. The intake of milk and milk products was low, especially in rural areas. New problems like high fat and low carbohydrate consumption should be paid more attention. Conclusion:The government, together with the enterprises and nutritionists, must pay more attention to improve the nutritional status of residents in Hubei province, especially in rural area.
