Introduction to the special issue on Net-Zero Energy Systems

Abstract This article introduces the Energy and Climate Change special issue on “Net-Zero Energy Systems.” Net-zero emissions energy systems are important for limiting global temperature change to any level. Although net-zero emissions pledges by countries, subnational jurisdictions, and other entities have grown, detailed research on net-zero energy systems has only recently emerged in the literature. This introductory article motivates the special issue and summarizes key insights.
