Experimental study on the relationship between the expression of VEGF and the biological characteristics of human stomach cancer

2006
Objective:To study the expression of vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF)in human stomach cancer tissue and analyze the relationship between the expression of VEGF and the biological characteristics of stomach cancer. Methods:The expression of VEGF and the microvessel density(MVD)in human stomach cancer tissue were detected by immunohistotochemistry S-P staining. The expression of VEGF mRNA in stomach cancer tissue was examined by reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction(RT-PCR)method.Results:The expression rate of VEGF in stomach cancer was 60.3%.The expression level of VEGF in stomach cancer was higher than that in normal stomach tissue. The vascularity of stomach cancer tissue was asymmetry and mainly gathered on the edge of tumors.MVD was also correlated to the lymphnode metastasis. There was positive relationship between MVD and VEGF.The expression of VEGF mRNA in stomach cancer tissue was higher than that in normal stomach tissue. Conclusion:The development of stomach cancer is related to higher expression of VEGF.There are relationships between overexpression of VEGF in stomach cancer tissue and pathologic grades, metastasis and MVD of stomach cancer.
