Summary The possibilities to repair injured meniscal tissue have improved substantially over the last decades. Nevertheless, only 2% of all meniscal lesions undergo reconstructive surgery, thus bearing a huge potential for the time to come. Biomechanical and anatomic understanding of the different meniscal lesion types as well as the advances in arthroscopic meniscal repair techniques has profoundly improved. The emerging trend is torwards minimal invasive, time saving, technically precise and save procedures. This article presents an overview of newly recognized lesions and shows the possibilities of specific repair techniques.
