The LEVEL OF PHYSICAL ACTIVITY AND ITS ASSOCIATION WITH HB LEVEL AMONG STUDENTS IN TWIN CITIES

2020
Objective: to evaluate the physical activity and its association with hemoglobin concentration among undergraduate students. Method and materials: A cross-sectional correlational study was conducted on n=400 undergraduate students, between 18-25 years, of Isra Institute Rehabilitation Sciences, Isra University Islamabad. The Hemoglobin (Hb) concentration was evaluated through the hemoglobin-meter and physical activity through the International Physical Activity Questionnaires (IPAQ-SF7). The Pearson product-moment correlation was used to find correlation between physical activity and Hb concentration. Results: The mean age of study participants was 21.10±1.76 years.  A total of n=88(22) participants had low level of physical activity, n=185(46.25) participants had moderate level of physical activity and n=127(31.75) participants had vigorous physical activity. There was weak positive correlation (r=0.155, p=0.002) between PA and Hb level. Conclusion: It was concluded that that increased level of physical activity or prolong sitting may improve or lower the Hb concentration respectively.
