Many individuals with chronic illnesses such as Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) are well and anticipate a good prognosis for many years. In this setting a number of couples discordant for the infections (man infected and women uninfected) are now attempting to have their own children. Many IVF clinics around the world have used assisted reproduction technology (ART) to achieve pregnancies, providing access to parenthood while reducing the risks of transmission from the male to female 1,2.
