Studies in segmental replacement of the thoracic trachea

Summary A series of studies of substitution of tracheal segments have been reviewed and discussed. Intraluminal insertion appears to be the method most likely to be successful. Low grade chronic infection at ends of the prosthesis and difficulty of maintaining fixation appear to be limiting factors.
