Quenching Properties of YBCO-thin-film Tapes

Quenching properties have been investigated for a YBCO-thin-film tape which has Ni-based alloy as its substrate. Experiments were performed to evaluate voltage development both under the currents I > Ic and after local quenching. The voltage development in the sample under the excess currents was also numerically simulated, and the simulated data well agreed with the experimental results. Using the verified calculation model, electrical and thermal behaviors of a fault current limiter were simulated for the case in which the fault current limiter is installed in a power system. Then, parameters that determine the superconducting-tape length required for the fault current limiter were investigated.
