The paper deals with the vibration characteristics of a simply-supported beam with discontinuous cross section. Most of researches have been concerned with theoretical analysis of a simple beam model with uniform cross section. Governing equations are derived, and solutions are assumed by Galerkin"s mode summation method. Finite element method adopts admissible function satisfying only geometric boundary condition. In this study, we apply Galerkin"s mode summation method which uses eigen-function satisfying both governing equation and boundary conditions. Modal testing was performed on simply-supported beams with discontinuous cross-sections. The analysis results have a good agreement with experimental ones.
