Uranbergbau in Kanada

1996
Uranium Mining in Canada Canada is presently the world leader for producing newly-mined uranium, most of which comes from the Athabasca Basin in northern Saskatchewan where the very high grade unconformity type ore deposits are located. In Saskatchewan, three mines and mills are operating at Key Lake, Rabbit Lake and Cluff Lake. Ore grades in the Athabasca Basin uranium mines are about ten times higher than the average ore grades elsewhere in the world. A new era of uranium mining is beginning in Saskatchewan as the next generation of deposits are deeply buried by hundreds of metres of sandstone. Innovative mining methods such as jet boring combined with ground freezing and remote boxhole stoping methods are being developed for ore extraction. Uranium mining is regulated by both the federal and provincial governments in Canada to ensure compliance of the projects with all environmental regulations. The highly efficient uranium mines and mills of Saskatchewan's Athabasca Basin will continue to dominate world uranium production and Canada's future is assured as a stable and reliable supplier of uranium fuel for the world's nuclear power plants.
