CORRESPONDENCE ANALYSIS ON CORRELATION AMONG BMI, WHR AND HYPERTENSION IN MONGOLIAN PEOPLE

2009
[Objective] To explore the correlation among BMI, WHR and hypertension types in Mongolian people. [ Methods] The data of BMI, WHR and hypertension of 2 589 Mongolians were analyzed using correspondence analysis method. [Results] BMI﹤24 was correlated with normal blood pressure, BMI≥24 and ﹤28 was correlated with isolated diastolic hypertension, and BMI≥28 was correlated with both isolated systolic hypertension and combined systolic and diastolic hypertension. WHR﹤0.9 was correlated with normal blood pressure, while WHR≥0.9 was correlated with isolated systolic hypertension, isolated diastolic hypertension, and combined systolic and diastolic hypertension. [Conclusion] BMI and WHR are important risk factors of hypertension in Mongolian people, and correspondence analysis is a valid and intuitional method to study the correlation among BMI, WHR and hypertension.
