The Effect of dl-THP on Red Cell Membrane among Aged Rats

2012
Objectives: To study the mechanism of dl-tetrahydropalmatine(dl-THP) on the whole-blood viscosity at low, medium and high shear, the blood plasma viscosity and erythrocyte deformability in aged rats. Methods: Totally 40 aged Wistar rats were randomly divided into four groups: the aged controlled group, the dl-THP high dosage group, the dl-THP low dosage group, and Asprine group,of 10 rats in each group. The other 10 young rats were the young controlled group. After 14 days of intragastric administration all the rats were draw blood from carotid artery and prepared red cell membrane, and then we determined and analyzed the content of Cholesterol,Saliva acid,Sulphur,MDA and activity of SOD and Na+-K+-ATP enzymes. Results: High dosage of dl-THP(132.8mg/kg/d) could enhance the activity of Na+-K+-ATP enzymes and SOD on the red cell membrane of aged rats(P0.05),reduce the Cholesterol content(P0.01)and MDA(P0.05) content on the red cell membrane of aged rats, and could increase the Sulphur content on the erythrocyte membrane of the aged rats(P0.01).Cunclusions: The mechanism of dl-tetrahydropalmatine(dl-THP) on the whole-blood viscosity at low, medium and high shear, the blood plasma viscosity and erythrocyte deformability in aged rats may be related to that dl-THP,which can enhance the activity of Na+-K+-ATP enzymes, reduce the Cholesterol content, increase the Sulphur content, and enhance the SOD activity and decrease MDA content.
