Postrehabilitative Health Care for Individuals with SCI: Extending Health Care into the Community

Access to timely and appropriate health care is vital to the well-being of individuals with spinal cord injury (SCI), who often have problems accessing the kinds of health services they need when they need them. This is particularly problematic because of their risks for deteriorating health, onset of secondary conditions, and loss of functional independence. This article outlines the scope of the challenge that individuals with SCI face and documents potential solutions to better meet their ongoing postrehabilitation health care needs.
