Aluminium fumarate metal-organic framework coating for adsorption cooling application: Experimental study
2021
Abstract This study discusses integrating aluminium fumarate metal-organic framework (MOF) as a coated layer instead of conventional packing to improve adsorption system performance. The mechanical strength of the MOF coating layer was tested showing enhanced heat transfer properties and high durability. An experimental parametric study was conducted where parameters such as half-cycle time, evaporator water inlet, adsorption bed water inlet, condenser water inlet and desorption bed inlet temperatures were investigated and the coated heat exchanger performance was compared to conventional packing. Results showed that the aluminium fumarate coated heat exchanger had a half-cycle of 500 s which is shorter than the packed one which was 900 s. Also, at a cycle time of 1000 s, the aluminium fumarate coated heat exchanger produced 600 W kg 1 which is three folds of what was produced from the packed one. The significant enhancement in the specific cooling power highlights the potential of integrating aluminium fumarate as coating instead of packing.
