Replication-aware Cache Management for CMPs with private LLCs

2016
The last level cache (LLC) in private configurations offer lower latency and isolation but extinguishes the possibility of sharing underutilized cache resources. Although making efforts on efficient capacity sharing and manycore environment adaptability for private configurations, Cooperative Caching proposals did not pay enough attention to the natural problem of private LLCs, replication. In this paper, the replication-aware cache management is presented to optimize replication for private configurations. It employs a novel mechanism PBFP that monitors and predicts the reusability of shared cache blocks to dynamically adjust insertion policies giving shared blocks evicted from upper levels different positions of LRU chain and chances of survival in LLC according to the prediction. Experiment results show this proposal is competent to optimize replication by performing better than two baseline systems in both L2 Hit Rate and Network Traffics.
