IMPROVEMENT OF TURBULENCE IN DI DIESEL ENGINE WITH REGENERATIVE SURFACES ALONG WITH

2015
Turbulence is one of problems in DieselEngine. Normally in C.I Engines, proper mixing of charge plays a major role toobtain efficient combustion. At the end of the compression stroke, fuel in theform of fine particles sprayed in to the combustion chamber and each and everyparticle must be surrounded by compressed air must be in motion. So, In Dieselengines, the combustion efficiency plays a major role for its performance. Ifthe combustion efficiency is less, it leads to improper mixing of air and fuelthat is lack of turbulence. Turbulence of a diesel engine depends on the designof the combustion chamber. At the end of the combustion stroke, the fuel isinjected on to the piston crown and dispersed. By providing proper turbulentgrooves on the piston, turbulence is created and thereby proper mixing of airand fuel. The objective of the research was to find the proper turbulentgrooved piston crown to be used for better turbulence. Several turbulentgrooves on the piston crown were made to increase further atomization and breakdown of fuel droplets into fine small molecules. Piston crown with three grovesfound to be the best in the performance of combustion and pollution aspects.  With the provision of Turbulent grooves alongwith reservoir of heat, the combustion as well as thermal efficiencies would beimproved. These are two provisions in any Diesel Engine are the operative waysto utilize maximum amount of fuel for effective combustion. Hence is thePresent work. Keywords:  CombustionEfficiency, Turbulent Grooves, Pistoninserts, Limited Cooled Engines
