The Significance of Immunostains in Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma of Breast

2010
Adenoid cystic carcinoma of the breast is a rare neoplasm, accounting for less than 0.1% of all mammary cancers. This variant of adenocarcinoma usually occurs in the salivary glands. Unlike the aggressive nature of adenoid cystic carcinoma in the head and neck, adenoid cystic carcinoma of the breast has a favorable prognosis. It is import to distinguish adenoid cystic carcinoma from other types of breast cancers. We report a 65-years-old woman with endometrioid carcinoma in uterus five years ago, and suffered from adenoid cystic carcinoma in left breast now. The positive immunostains of P63 and c-Kit play an integral role to make the correct diagnosis.
