Epidemiology of antibiotic resistance and MBL genes among Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Acinetobacter baumannii clinical strains isolated from burnt patients in Iran: a systematic review

INTRODUCTION: Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Acinetobacter baumannii are common gram-negative non-fermenter opportunistic bacteria associated with nosocomial infections, especially among hospitalized burn patients. EVIDENCE ACQUISITION: In this study, PubMed was searched using the following keywords: “P. aeruginosa”, “A. baumannii”, “metallo-β-lactamases”, “burn or burnt”, “Iran”, “MBL”, “VIM-1 gene”, “IMP-1 gene” and “NDM-1 gene”. Fifteen articles were eligible to be included in our systematic review. EVIDENCE SYNTHESIS: These studies were carried out in Tehran, Tabriz, Kurdistan and Ahvaz. Number of imipenem resistant strains reported of burnt patients and metallo-beta-lactamases producing isolates reported of burnt patients in Iran. Among MBL genes, blaVIM is more than blaIMP and blaNDM genes in Iran. CONCLUSIONS: The prevalence of s-lactamase-producing isolates, and their isolation from life-threatening infections, is increasing worldwide at an alarming rate.
