The invention discloses a driving device and a driving method of a display, wherein, the driving device comprises an image processing unit, a time schedule controller and a backlight controller. The image processing unit divides a frame period into an image period and a dark state period. In the dark state period, black frame insertion (gray frame insertion) is carried out to pictures by using a gray-scale picture and time schedule scanning backlight; in the image period, the image material is displayed by coordinating with the dynamic backlight, thereby leading the display to achieve the best contrast and the lowest power consumption.
