Extensive hemispheric diffusion restriction in haemolytic uremic syndrome

Haemolyticuremicsyndrome(HUS)isararemulti-organdisease affecting predominantly children between 1 and 4years of age with an incidence of 1 per 50,000. It is causedby verotoxin-producing enterohaemorrhagic Escherichiacoli (EHEC) infection. Neurological symptoms are reportedin 20e50% of cases and represent the major cause ofmorbidity and mortality in patients with HUS. The neuro-logical symptoms vary widely and may include visualdisturbances, seizures, alteration of consciousness, hemi-paresis, and brainstem symptoms.
