REPRESENTACIONES BIDIMENSIONALES: LA COMPRENSIÓN ESPONTÁNEA DE SUS FUNCIONES SIMBÓLICAS

Entre las diversas funciones que cumplen, las representaciones bidimensionales sirven como fuente de informacion y como medio de comunicacion. El proposito de este estudio fue examinar si los ninos de 30 meses de edad son capaces de comprender y usar sin instruccion del adulto estas dos funciones representativas de las imagenes. Los resultados muestran que los ninos comunican espontaneamente la ubicacion de un juguete que observaron esconder senalando su escondite en una fotografia. Sin embargo, a esta edad no son capaces de usar en forma independiente la fotografia como fuente de informacion para buscar el juguete escondido. Un aspecto crucial del desarrollo simbolico es aprender con que intencion especifica utilizar los simbolos en tanto sus funciones estan social y culturalmente determinadas. Palabras clave Desarrollo simbolico Representaciones bidimensionales ABSTRACT SPONTANEOUS UNDERSTANDING OF THE SYMBOLIC FUNCTIONS OF PICTURES Among other functions, pictures serve as sources of information and as a means of communication. The purpose of this study was to test if by 30 months of age children are able to figure out without adult instruction these two symbolic functions. The results show that children spontaneously communicated the location of an object they have observed being hidden via pointing to a photograph. Nevertheless, at this age children were unable to use completely of their own the photo as a source of knowledge to search for the hidden object. A crucial step in early symbolic development is understanding that symbols have intentional functions that must be perceived for their conventional use.
