Mössbauer-effect investigation of nickel and magnesium-manganese ferrites with Sc2O3 additions
1971
1.
At small values of x (below 0.3), Sc3+ ions in NiFe2−xScxO4 occupy octahedral positions.
2.
Small additions of Sc3+ sharply change the magnitude of chemical shift in NiFe2−xScxO4. This is caused by polarization in the distribution of the 3d-electrons of iron, which is apparently linked with an indirect exchange reaction via the p-electrons of oxygen.
3.
The anomalous variation of magnetic induction in magnesium-manganese ferrites during the partial replacement of Fe3+ ions by Sc3+ ions is due not so much to a redistribution of 3d-electrons between Fe3+ and Sc3+, as to a marked change in cation distribution.
