Anxiety Disorders in Epilepsy

This review addresses the place of anxiety disorders in the spectrum of mental comorbidities in patients with epilepsy. The general features of the manifestations of anxiety are described and the current views on the classification and qualification of anxiety disorders in these patients are presented. Current data on the link between anxiety and various forms of epilepsy, demographic and gender features, and localization of the epileptic focus are discussed. Questions of the bidirectional nature of the relationship between anxiety and epilepsy and the temporal relationship between anxiety and epileptic states are addressed.
