Lipatov's QCD pomeron and SppS data on the phase of pp elastic scattering

Abstract An analysis of the cosmic ray data on σ abs (p air) has led to the conclusion that σ tot (pp) rises steeply beyond √ s =1 TeV, which nicely agrees with predictions of Lipatov's QCD pomeron. A large, positive, phase of the forward p ( p )p scattering amplitude implied by this rapid rise of σ tot (pp) is shown to fit perfectly the recent S p pS data on ϱ p p=ReF p p (t=0)/ Im F p p (t=0) . Predictions for σ tot ( p p)=85−95 mb and ϱ p p at the Tevatron, √ s =1.8 TeV, are presented: σ tot ( p p)=85−95 mb and ϱ p p ≈0.2 .
