2P-755 : Preparation of activated carbon from mung bean and its adsorption behavior for CO 2 , CH 4 , and N 2

2019
In this work, a novel mung bean powder was used for the preparation of activated carbon by chemical activation with KOH. The mixing ratios between the carbonized mung bean char and KOH were changed from 1 to 3. The prepared ACs was further characterized by low temperature nitrogen adsorption isotherms to examine their textural and energetic properties. Adsorption equilibrium capacity of CO2, CH4 and N2 on mung bean based AC was also obtained using a volumetric adsorption analyzer at 298 K and up to 110 kPa. The experimental adsorption isotherm data were then fitted to Langmuir, Toth, and Sips isotherm models. Adsorption energy distribution(AED) function was used to comparatively evaluate the surface energetic heterogeneity of mung bean based AC. The ideal adsorbed solution theory(IAST) was further applied to predict the CO2 selectivity over N2 and CH4 using pure component adsorption isotherm parameters.
