Direct drive applications in the development of innovation concept for the 'pick-up' high-speed machining systems
2005
New machine and drive concepts, coming from the small and middle companies, were important impulse for development. Machine principle called „ Pick-up“ , defined 20 years ago for the turning operations, presents even today a trend for the new concepts of innovative high-speed machines. Direct integrated synchronous motor elements (integrated motors, linear motors and torque motors) in the machine structure, due to the „ Pick-up“ principle, have already shown new increasing possibilities in productivity and flexibility. This paper, using 3D CAD modeling, analyses several variants of the highspeed machines according to the „ Pick-up“ principle. Dynamic possibilities of the direct drive elements integrated in the machine structure were analyzed with a variety of different shapes, dimensions, materials and other structure elements using 3D model of a virtual machine. Dynamic analysis and rigidity calculation with the 3D model offer new possibilities to optimize the structure of machine elements and the characteristics of drive elements before the prototype production.
