Nitrogen dioxide: Risk assessment, environmental, and health hazard

2021
Abstract Nitrogen dioxide is one of the highly reactive gases, a major pollutant, a strong oxidant, and one of the chemical species of oxides of nitrogen. The aptness to absorb visible solar radiation, a major regulator of the oxidizing capacity of the free troposphere as well as estimation of ozone concentrations in the troposphere are some of the characteristic properties that make nitrogen dioxide a vital trace gas. This vital gas primarily gets in the air from the burning of fuel causing severe health issues. However, few data is available on NOx toxicity. Here, we review NOx hazardousness, including risk evaluation as well as management.
