Resistencia bacteriana: un riesgo real. ¿Qué podemos hacer?

espanolLa aparicion y propagacion de las infecciones causadas por bacterias resistentes al tratamiento con antibioticos constituye una de las mayores amenazas globales para la salud publica. Asi lo confirman las 33.000 muertes anuales que se calcula que se producen en Europa como consecuencia de infecciones hospitalarias causadas por bacterias resistentes, 4.000 de ellas en Espana. Si la tendencia sigue el ritmo actual, en 2050 podiamos llegar a 1 O millones de muertes anuales a nivel mundial. El sector de la produccion animal en Espana ha visto la importancia de la lucha frente a este problema y es un ejemplo de colaboracion y esfuerzo, que resulto en la reduccion del 58,8 % de ventas de antibioticos veterinarios en apenas 5 anos (2014-2019). La creacion en 2014, entre otras cosas, de los Programas REDUCE como estrategia impulsada por el Plan Nacional frente a las Resistencias a los Antibioticos (PRAN) ha sido clave en la concienciacion del sector. Concretamente el sector porcino ha sido pionero en esta lucha, consiguiendo una impresionante reduccion de colistina, uno de los antibioticos mas criticos en el momento. Pero aun existe margen de mejora y nuevos retos de futuro nos exigen seguir trabajando. This is confirmed by the 33,000 annual deaths that are estimated to occur in Europe as a result of hospital infections caused by resistant bacteria, 4,000 of them in Spain. If the trend continues at the current rate, by 2050 we could reach 10 million deaths per year globally. The animal production sector in Spain has seen the importance of the fight against this problem and is an example of collaboration and effort, which resulted in a 58.8% reduction in sales of veterinary antibiotics in just 5 years (2014- 2019). The creation in 2014, among other things, of the REDUCE Programs as a strategy promoted by the National Plan against Antibiotic Resistance (PRAN) has been key in raising awareness in the sector. Specifically, the pig sector has been a pioneer in this fight, achieving an impressive reduction in colistin, one of the most critical antibiotics at the time. But there is still room for improvement and new challenges for the future require us to continue working.
