A fast zero-time detector for heavy ions using the channel electron multiplier

1973
Abstract Channel electron multipliers were used for detection of secondary electrons ejected from a thin foil by heavy ions. The properties of this system have been investigated with ions up to iodine. A time resolution of 350 ps and high efficiency in connection with small dimensions and uncritical operation make it to be an appropriate zero-time detector in a time-of-flight telescope for heavy nuclei.
