Interplay of bit rate, linewidth, and reach on DMT vs. PAM performance

We theoretically study the effect of system bandwidth, bit rate, laser linewidth and fiber length on DMT and PAM. DMT is optimized in terms of signal-to-carrier-power ratio and the performance of the optimal DMT configuration is compared to that of PAM.
