Supporting Links Between Living Apart Together (LAT) Couples Through Online Couple Therapy

2020
Living Apart Together couples often struggle to gain access to traditional face-to-face couple psychotherapy. The online medium affords the practitioner a unique opportunity to provide therapeutic support to partners while they are located some distance apart from one another and their therapist. This chapter draws on the author’s experience of setting up the online coupe psychotherapy service at Tavistock Relationships and his own online practice. It explores the challenges and opportunities inherent to webcam-mediated intervention with Living Apart Together couples. Clinical scenarios encountered when working with these couples are discussed, highlighting how the online medium can serve to explore and support the emotional, behavioural and unconscious links between these partners.
