Optimal vector control for wound rotor salient pole synchronous motor up to base speed

2012
This contribution introduces an optimal control for wounded rotor salient pole synchronous motor intended for a new mining machine drive. The optimum considers demand for maximum torque of the motor. Hence the main idea is to find optimal values of stator flux current I sd and rotor field excitation current I f to achieve maximum available torque of the machine. This contribution describes proposed control as well as used sensorless initial rotor position estimation because this mining machine drive will not use an absolute rotor position sensor. The theoretical conclusions are verified by both simulation results and extensive experiments made on developed down-scale prototype of investigated drive.
