On Pathogenetic Factors Concerned with Vascular Lesions Induced by High Sucrose Diet in Monkeys

1974
In 1963 we found that vascular lesions resembling human diabetic vascular changes had been induced in rabbits by feeding high sucrose diets, and we subsequently succeeded inducing the same arterial lesions in rats and beagles. The purpose of the present investigation was to study the effect of high sucrose diets on the development of vascular lesions in non-human primates. This was of importance, not least because they were phylogenetically closer to man.
