CT Diagnosis of Thoracic Bronchogenic Cysts

2006
Objective To investigate the Clinical and CT manifestations of bronchogenic cysts. Methods The clinical and CT manifestations of bronchogenic cysts confirmed by surgery and pathology in 38 cases were retrospectively analyzed. Results Among 38 cases of bronchogenic cysts,25 cases were in lung,11 cases in mediastinum,1 case in pericardial cavity,1 case in chest wall.Solitary cyst was found in 28 cases, and multiple cysts were in 10 cases. The cysts appeared soft tissue density in 16 cases,air-containing cysts in 5,fluid-containing cysts in 11 and air-liquid level cysts in 6.They complicated with hemorrhage in 5,infection in 8,bullae in 3,bronchiectasis in 3,local emphysema in 4,pneumonia in 3 and tuberculosis in 1.Air-containing cysts were most seen among multiple cysts, the course in the cases of multiple cysts and soft tissue density cysts were long. Conclusion Contrast-enhanced CT is very useful in the correct diagnosis of bronchogenic cysts, which plays an important role in the early diagnosis and treatment.Ectopic bronchogenic cysts lack clinical CT signs, the correct diagnosis depends on pathology.
