The Effect of Levothyroxine on Pre Conditioning in Common Bile Duct Ligation Cirrhotic Rat

2017
Aim and background: The clinical manifestation of cirrhotic cardiomyopathy and its relation with Ischemia not fully recognized. Ischemic preconditioning (IPC),is defined as brief episodes of ischemia which is followed by reperfusion prior the main ischemia is a key protective factor against ischemia reperfusion (IR) injuries. The hypothesis behind our recent project derived from this fact that we are proposing that there are an IPC disorder in (common bile duct ligated) CBDL and thyroid hormone shave the potential to recover this abnormality. Material and methods: The experiments were accomplished using adult male wistar rats (Pasteur Institute of Iran, Iran), with a body weight range of 220-260g.Animal were under standardized conditions with a 12-hour light/dark cycle,20–24 °C, and 45– 55% humidity. Results: Liver enzymes increased significantly ,albumin decreased in CBDL. Ventricular arrhythmia severity was decreased significantly in the IPC group compared to the IR group. Ventricular arrhythmia severity was decreased significantly in the IPC compared to the IR group. It was increased but not significantly in the IPC-CBDL group compared to the IPC group. It was decreased significantly in the IPC-CBDL group compared to the CBDL group. Addition of T4 in the T4 -CBDL group did not decrease the severity of ventricular arrhythmias in comparison with the IR-CBDL group. Conclusion: The current study shows the cardio protective role of IPC is abrogated in CBDL cirrhotic rat hearts, whereas T4 restores the IPC phenomenon in the CBDL cirrhotic rat.
