Importance of the histologic structure of the superficial temporal artery for the function of extra- intracranial bypass

Every neurosurgeon who has performed an extra- intracranial bypass has seen in the angiogram an enlargement of the superficial temporal artery (STA) (Figs. 1 and 2) on postoperative angiography. This dilation led us to examine the degenerative changes that appear in the STA.
