The invention describes a method for the preparation of silane, wherein the magnesium hydride and halosilanes are reacted to silane and a by-product which can be separated into at least two compounds, in a liquid reaction medium at a temperature T> = 100 degrees C and a reaction / residence time <60 min, and wherein at least one of said compounds is recycled.
