Experimental Study of the Emission Properties of Magnetron Injection Guns for High-Power Gyrotrons

2019
The quality of the electron beam generated by a Magnetron Injection Gun (MIG) is very important in order to ensure the excellent performance of a gyrotron operating at millimeter wave frequencies and at an output power in the range of megawatts. At KIT a diagnostic device, operating at scaled down parameters, was recently developed in order to study the emission properties of various MIGs that are intended to be used with prototype modular-type gyrotrons. Herein, we present the first experimental results that were obtained for an electron gun that is used with a 170 GHz, 2 MW coaxial-cavity gyrotron.
