Vibrational Spectra and Conformation of the Cyclopentyl Fluoride Ring

The infrared and Raman spectra of fluorocyclopentane in the wavenumber range 1300–30 cm−1 is reported. The skeletal vibrations are assigned. None of the skeletal modes were observed as doublets and the pseudorotational fundamental frequency is quite low, 59 cm−1. It was concluded, therefore, that the experimental results are consistent with only one stable conformer.
