Adaptive Coastal Management for Gravel Beach Nourishment in Tuvalu Based on Monitoring Results

Beach nourishment using coral gravel and sand was proposed and implemented as an environment and user-friendly coastal conservation measure in Tuvalu. Beach monitoring was continued for two years after the construction and the adaptive coastal management with physical measure based on the monitoring data was proposed and practiced by local stakeholders. As a result, it was confirmed that the adaptive coastal management was effective in maintaining a healthy beach condition and directly enforceable by themselves.
