Nanocomposite Drug Carriers

Smart drug-delivery system plays an important role in the treatment of a number of diseases, tumor and inflammation being two typical examples. Contemporarily, with the advance of material science and nanotechnology, particles, hydrogels, insert films, and even contact lenses have been designed and prepared to be drug carriers, which have showed a promising prospect in the clinical medication. In view of potential application of drug carriers, our recent research in the last 10 years, including scientific research and applied-oriented inventions, have been mainly focused on nanocomposite drug carriers, like core–shell nanoparticles, hollow capsules, hydrogel contact lens, and nanocomposite films. This chapter concerns fabrication approaches and structure-properties of drug carriers as well as their application in the following aspects: (1) multifunctional porous/hollow nanovehicles for anticancer drug delivery (2) hydrogel contact lens as ocular drug-delivery systems (3) hydrogel composite film as wound dressing drug-delivery systems.
