Abstrac: The actions of the womens social movements in African continet can be defined as social development actions, more in line with the needs of the local population. Educa- tion and social work practice in this context has many difficulties such as lack of resources and inadequate training schools, appropriate curricula, etc. Through a case study in East Africa the role of social movements women and its relationship to social development and social work is discussed. It starts with the certainty that their actions should be con- sidered as an opportunity to overcome some of the professional and educational social work challenges in the continent.
