Anaerobic Biodegradation and Biotransformation Using Emulsified Edible Oils

2005
Once in groundwater, chlorinated solvents, nitrate, perchlorate and dissolved metals from acid rock drainage pose serious water quality threats. Options for clea nup of these contaminants vary, but many have high capital costs that need long -term maintenance, continuing attention, and are not appropriate for lightly contaminated areas or where the source area is poorly defined. The introduction of emulsified edible oil substrate (EOS®) to the aquifer has been shown to accelerate anaerobic biodegradation and biotransformations of these widespread contaminants (U.S. Patent #6,398,960).
