An identification method for subsurface target based on polarization information

2012
A method for subsurface metallic landmine recognition based on polar invariants is proposed. The electromagnetic characteristic on metallic landmine buried beneath using the FDTD computational model for subsurface landmine as shown in [8] is calculated. The polarization invariants are analyzed according to the electromagnetic characteristic. The results show that the peak values of power matrix trace and depolarized coefficient on frequency domain are level-headed polar invariants. And they are able to be used to identify subsurface landmines from the clutter in Ground Penetrating Synthetic Aperture Radar (GPSAR). To realize target recognition quickly, the matching algorithm based on genetic algorithm is designed. The effectiveness of the proposed method is testified by identifying various targets.
