A brief discussion on Li-ion batteries for HEVs

Developing hybrid electric vehicles(HEVs) is presently the best way to achieve drastic reductions in oil consumption and air pollution.Powertrain hybridization requires new electrical storage systems with very high performances.For the foreseeable future,Ni-MH and Li-ion are the dominating current and potential battery technologies for HEVs.Li-ion,currently at development and demonstration stages,offers attractive opportunities for improvements in performance and cost.A brief discussion of the performances,safety,design and manufacturing of high power Li-ion batteries was introduced.
