2014
Field studies were carried out in the Postgraduate Teaching and Research Farm, Department of Crop Science and Technology, Federal University of Technology, Owerri, Imo State, Nigeria during the 2009 and 2010 cropping seasons. The study was designed to identify insect species that decimate early maturing pigeon pea cultivar ICPL 84023. This study consisted of pest surveillance, monitoring and insect collection with sweep nets from phenological stages planted in plots each measuring 11.0 m x 15.0 m (165.0 m2). The results showed presence of largest number of insect species in April (68 in 2009, 48 in 2010) followed by October (38 in 2009, 46 in 2010) and July (33 in 2009 and 27 in 2010).
